Not Why but Why Me By: Steven Handmaker Posted: September 9, 2015   For the purpose of this blog post, I'm going to assume you know who Simon Sinek is and are familiar with his best-selling book, Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action . If not, stop reading this right now. Do yourself a favor, and go check out his TED Talk on "How Great Leaders Inspire Action." Then, go get his book. Once you've read it, digested it and had your mind sufficiently blown, come back to this post and meet me at the beginning of paragraph two.   Hi again. It seems that pretty much every marketing and business leader I know thinks Simon Sinek is super smart. Corporate America universally seems to agree that if you want to create an engaged culture and inspire action, you must start with why the company exists. If you want people to be excited to come to work and do great work, then they must know why the company is in business.   Unfortunately – that’s where I of...

As vice president of sales for Sandvik Coromant, my territory spans the Western U.S. I spend the better part of my days visiting customers at their plants – our customers are manufacturers of metal products or components. I usually accompany one of my sales managers or representatives on sales calls, hearing what the customer’s needs are and trying to provide solutions. Often my role is to ...

What I've Learned From Plant Tours

Manufacturing associate poses for photo during plant tour at Com-Corp Industries.   What I've Learned From Plant Tours By: Allison Grealis Posted: September 4, 2015   Here’s the thing. During the past 15 years, I have visited more than 1,000 manufacturing facilities. From my experiences, I’ve learned three general truths: 1. Manufacturing plants are NOT dark, dirty or dangerous.   I have RARELY encountered a facility that fits the traditional manufacturing stereotype. Unfortunately, when many people think of a manufacturing facility, they think of three “D’s”—dark, dirty and dangerous. This could not be more untrue. Almost all of the plants that I have had the pleasure of visiting have been modern, technology-driven and impeccably clean. Manufacturing requires creativity and ingenuity; it would be almost impossible to design and develop products in an environment that is even remotely dark, dirty or dangerous.   This stereotype generally keeps women from pursuing ...

W tym celu przygotowałam dla Was recenzję niemal zupełnie organicznego masła do ciała z szałwii muszkatałowej i miłorząbu japońskiego polskiej firmy BE ORGANIC .  PLUSY 1. Masło składa się z 98,5 naturalnych składników. 2. 5. Opako...

How Smart Girls Change the World

President of Women in Manufacturing, Allison Grealis (on left), stands with 2014 WiM SUMMIT student attendees. How Smart Girls Change the World By: Allison Grealis Posted: September 1, 2015   It’s 2015 and it’s cool to be a smart girl. Young women are growing up with ideas that they can do anything they want to do, be anyone they want to be, and that they can change the world. What a concept! Seeds of success are planted at a young age, but is anyone telling girls how they can change the world? What are the steps they need to take to achieve this? Are there any?     I’m a huge fan of Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, an online community that encourages women and girls to: “Change the World by Being Yourself.” And I’m a huge fan of that motto because there are no steps to success concretely outlined here. Just ‘be yourself’. Sounds simple enough, right?   Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple. ‘Being yourself’ oftentimes doesn’t come as naturally to us women as it shou...
