BOW IT!

Hình ảnh
I took a pair of sleeves and made myself a bow. Here we have a vintage blouse that I adopted when my mother wanted to get rid of it, but that I am - lets face it- most likely never going to wear: Unless we procrastinate a bit on everything else I have on the to-do list and tweak this one a little bit. Snip snap off with the sleeves we go! In general (and this is a true generalisation), short sleeves work best for me. So if an item is not being worn often enough shortening its sleeves often helps for me. You  have seen me turn sleeves into pockets before on a dress  and immediately earn plus points (equals wear-points) but if you can't make pockets, make a bow - in this case we will pimp up this blouse to get a pussy bow by making a ribbon from the sleeves. In order for you to tie it properly into a bow around your neck and not just a knot (which could be quite nice as well) you need the ribbon, or tie,  to be at least about 110cm. One could make the ribbons such that they are sewn

Cabbage Roses and Frills

As I mentioned in my last post, textiles are the most important element in creating haute couture. When I am looking over the catwalks or the red carpets, with certain styles, I am limited by my access (or lack) of luxury fabrics. I can sometimes get around that limitation with opulent trimming. But even then.....the best is in the fabric shops of Paris..and I am not always in that beloved city when I need them. Left: dress made using a fancy trim. Right: dress made with my own surface treatment. For the Fall/Winter ready-to-wear Ermanno Scervino dress I replicated for my doll, I used a very elaborate frilly trim and a super simple pattern: fitted bodice with an attached full skirt. It took, literally no time to do this. Quite naturally, there were details I missed from the original dress, but at the end of the day, the doll was happy because.....all she really wanted was the look! That said, after fashion month, I took a closer look at the Scervino dresses and I decided to make it aga

Senior Gallery show

Senior Gallery show Welch Street Complex #1: The Fashion Experience is a show that aims to bring visibility to the effort designers put into their work and to showcase their past work through the years of being in the fashion program. The show follows the design process of the 2018 graduating class of fashion design students whose Senior Collections will be walking the runway at ArtWear, the senior fashion show on May 5th. From pattern-making, to draping, to sketch development, to muslins, and finally to a garment, all steps of the conceptual development process are laid out in the gallery as a reminder of the behind the scenes work that is often overlooked.  The reception is May 3rd at 5PM.

DAG'S ROOM

Hình ảnh
At the end of last summer we renovated a room for Dag! Ever since we moved out of the flat in the city to stay in the countryside permanently we have been living in a constant renovation state, or rather, the notion of a  we-should-be-renovating  state. Half of our downstairs still consists of a labyrinth of boxes, and while I knew this would be a slow process, it is driving me insane nontetheless. However, slowly but certainly we have managed to get  some things  done:  a year ago we turned what I had referred to as "the renovation hole" into a walk-in closet, and at the end of summer we finally got around fixing Dag a proper room! (Earlier this year we renovated a room for Dag's older brother -the oldest boy has moved away from home to study already- and as late as then we finally also got proper electricity in this room; everything had been with extention chords there forever. We also got electricity to the walk-in closet and some chords and plugs in our bedroom corre
