STEP Awards Next Week

Hình ảnh
Photo from Manufacturing Institute We are looking forward to celebrating the second STEP Awards next Thursday evening, February 6th, at the Andrew W Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. We had a wonderful time last year at the first ever STEP Awards event - you can relive that here - and we're sure that this year will be even better! As a reminder, the STEP Awards are designed to identify and highlight women who have demonstrated excellence in manufacturing. The STEP Awards recognize women at all levels of manufacturing, from the factory floor to the C-suite. The STEP Awards call for women in Science, Technology, Engineering or Production roles who have made significant achievements in manufacturing through their positive impact on a company's product development, process improvement, project, sale, or other similar activities. The STEP Awards are part of the larger STEP Ahead initiative through the Manufacturing Institute.  The initiative was founded last year to examine an...

Meet Linda Taddonio - Chief eCommerce Strategy Officer for Insite Software When I first heard about an organization dedicated solely to women in manufacturing, I was thrilled - especially with the recent news that according to a new report, “ Manufacturing Jobs for the Future ,” released by the Joint Economic Committee in December 2013, , women are still underrepresented in manufacturing with employment ratios of 27%, the lowest since 1971. With the release of this recent report, I think now more than ever is the ideal time to rely on the expertise, advice, and experience from other women within the manufacturing field to increase job opportunities and leadership roles Here is some background information on my story, as I hope to connect with many of you within the field moving forward:   Title, company, and how long you’ve been involved with Insite Software My current title is Chief eCommerce Strategy Officer for Insite Software.   Insite Software is one of three businesses t...

New Senate Report Says Women Not Part of U.S. Manufacturing Turnaround

Hình ảnh
A new Senate report titled "Manufacturing Jobs for the Future" was released this week.  The report says the U.S. manufacturing sector has added half a million jobs since 2010.  During the same period, exports of U.S.-made goods rose 38 percent, according to the report. But that's where the good news stops. The same report, prepared by the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, points out that while men have gained 565,000 jobs in the manufacturing sector, women have lost 11,000 jobs.  The report says that women now make up only 27 percent of manufacturing workers in the U.S., the lowest that number has been since 1971. An International Business Times article about this week's study relates it to another recent piece of research put out by the same body in May of this year.  We wrote about the "Women in Manufacturing" study by the Joint Economic Committee in a blog post at that time.  That study explained not just the declining number of women, but ...
