GoldieBlox Marks a Girl-Powered Mark on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Did you happen to take a break from your turkey to see the girl-powered machine in the Macy’s Day Parade?
GoldieBlox, the girl inventor, made her first debut on the streets of New York City as one of the Macy’s Day Parade’s five newest floats.
As GoldieBlox’s founder, Standford engineer Debbie Sterling, says - "it’s not just a toy, it’s a social mission." The company is aimed at girls ages four to nine and is centered around Goldie and her friends, who use stories as an instruction guide to build things with their tools.
The revolutionary float, called "The Girl-Powered Spinning Machine," was powered by a team of girls using pulleys, pinwheels, and bicycles to power the float during the parade.
As Sterling said, "I remember when I was growing up watching the parade and dreaming of being a princess on the top of one of the floats. Now I have the opportunity to build my own float and show every little girl there are things you can do other than wave from a float: you can also build your own."
Following the parade, the company released a "Float on Goldie Kit," so that young Goldie fans can make their own mini Girl-Powered Spinning Machine just like the one seen on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Take a look at this awesome girl-power float!
