Our good director Allison Grealis is a guest blogger for the Huffington Post .  Her latest piece was published today.  Here's the first few paragraphs - The year was 1943. World War II had been raging for years already and it was beginning to take a devastating toll on the American home front. The draft created an impossibly severe labor shortage and Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson knew that the road to victory could be paved only with more workers in American factories. A new article posted on the Daily Worth site yesterday shares stories of seven women who switched to careers in manufacturing. We were thrilled when reporter Nancy Mann Jackson approached us during her research for this fantastic story about women who have found success the the manufacturing sector. On Sunday, September 15, Miss New York, Nina Davuluri became Miss America. She's beautiful, of course, but it's her brain that we're especially excited about! The newly crowned Miss America was on the dean's list and in the National Honor Society at the University of Michigan, where she graduated with a degree in brain behavior and cognitive science. And early plans indicate that she's dedicated to helping other young women pursue passions for science. Here's a highlight from a Miss America statement - "During her year as Miss America she will serve as spokesperson for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)...as she travels to Washington, D.C., to work with the Department of Education."
