CNN Shows Success of Women in Manufacturing

A CNN Money articlerecently published a list of 7 successful women in the manufacturing world.

Here is brief summary of the highlighted women included in the article.  Be sure to visit the CNN site to read more about this fabulous leading ladies in manufacturing!

1.      Kimberlie Gaarde and Brittnie Hammack, a mother daughter pair turned entrepreneurs, who started a new company, Fresh Fruit Cuts.

2.      Luconda Dager, the President of Velvet Ice Cream, a fourth-generation, 100 year old family business. After attending business school and working as a buyer for a major retail chain, Dager realized that it was time to get back to her roots and join the manufacturing family business full time.

3.      Severine Zygmont co-founded her own company, Oxford Performance Materials, a firm that produces 3-D polymers for biomedical, aerospace, and defense industries.

4.      Jennifer Bass owns Essve Tech, a manufacturer of corrugated steel pipes in Georgia that has increased significantly since she bought the firm.

5.      Alexis Miller handles the legal matters of her family’s San Francisco based firm, which manufactures uniforms for the hospitality industry and restaurant.

6.      Tracy Baker is the chief operating officer of DIRTT, a manufacturing organization that makes sustainable prefabricated interiors for corporate office, schools, and healthcare facilities.

We love this list because it reminds us of our own spotlights on outstanding women in manufacturing - Hear Her Story.

We noticed that a few common themes of these womens' stories match the themes we've found with the women we've interviewed.  First, many women come to manufacturing careers through family connections.  And, secondly, many young women making their way in manufacturing find the career pleasantly free of stereotypes and discrimination.
