Roundtable with Deloitte Consulting and The Manufacturing Institute on Ways to Increase Women in Manufacturing

On June 5, Deloitte Consulting published a press release about a recent roundtable between Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute, aimed at strategizing ways to integrate more women into the manufacturing sector.

In the release, president of The Manufacturing Institute Jennifer McNelly is quoted, saying “We must empower each other as ambassadors of the industry so we can inspire this next generation of young women to pursue manufacturing careers and encourage current female talent within the industry.”

The roundtable’s agenda consisted of brainstorming ways executives can change manufacturing’s corporate culture and strengthen employer bands in the industry. As result, these strategies were created as ways to close the gender gap:

•Integrate women into the corporate strategy to lead a strategic cultural change while ensuring men are equally involved and committed to the efforts

•Share leading practices and be proactive in providing resources to inform, educate and mentor

•Use affinity groups to generate ideas, motivate peers and give/receive guidance

•Engage The Manufacturing Institute's STEP Ahead initiative to engage honorees as leaders and ambassadors
