According to the White House Blog, President Obama spent time touring the exhibits, and addressed the students- including guests like Bill Nye the Science Guy- about the importance of STEM careers.

The President remarked, “we’re putting a special focus on all the inspiring girls and young women who are excelling in science. Fewer than 3 in 10 workers in science and engineering are women…we’ve got to change those numbers."

Earlier in the day a roundtable discussion with top White House officials including Senior Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett; John P. Holdren, President Obama’s Science Advisor; and Tina Tchen, Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls to meet and chat with some of the young female participants in this year’s White House Science Fair.

The event also received coverage in a PBS article published a week prior to the event, explaining the science fair along with the President’s Educate to Innovate campaign.
